Alma Gethers Therapy Fund

Healing should never be out of reach.

Alma Gethers

The Alma Gethers Therapy Fund was created to help Black men and boys access the mental health support they deserve without financial barriers standing in the way.

Named in honor of our Founder’s grandmother, Alma Gethers, this fund represents care, compassion, resilience, and the belief that our communities deserve spaces to heal fully and openly. Through this initiative, Holistic+Kin provides therapy assistance for Black men and boys seeking support for their emotional, mental, and overall well-being.

For many, therapy can feel inaccessible due to cost, stigma, cultural disconnect, or limited access to providers who truly understand their lived experiences. The Alma Gethers Therapy Fund exists to help change that.

Through the fund, eligible participants may receive sponsored therapy sessions with licensed mental health professionals who provide culturally affirming and compassionate care. Sessions may take place virtually or in person, depending on provider availability and participant needs.

We believe healing is not weakness. Seeking support is not a failure. And no one should have to navigate life’s challenges alone.

What the Fund Does

Holistic Kin, Inc. provides free access to therapy for Black men and boys in underserved communities through a voucher-based program. Eligible participants receive six to eight sessions with licensed mental health professionals, with services offered both virtually and in person.

Providers are paid directly by the organization using grant and donor funding. The program helps reduce financial and cultural barriers to mental health care while increasing access to culturally affirming support. Participants will complete a simple application to determine eligibility and need. Once approved, they may receive therapy support through Holistic+Kin’s provider network or approved licensed professionals. Funds are not given directly to participants. Holistic+Kin pays providers directly for approved therapy sessions to ensure care is accessible, transparent, and responsibly managed.

The Alma Gethers Therapy Fund helps provide access to:

  • Individual therapy sessions

  • Culturally affirming mental health care

  • Virtual and in-person therapy options

  • Short-term wellness support and stabilization

  • Referrals to trusted providers and additional resources

Who This Fund Serves
